Internet as New Radical Media

Hey gals and guys!

So, the Internet is, in my opinion, the ultimate Radical Media because it is practically free, and it can reach millions in a couple of clicks.
I want to share with you these media, which I will present in class today:

AVAAZ.org
SEIU.org
RestoreTheRepublic.com
RepublicMagazine.com

  1. Thanks Alex! Ok now that you love the internet you need to start asking yourself, what are its limits and under what conditions does it work as a truly alternative or radical medium.

  2. That's a good point because, Adrienne. I do enjoy the relative freedom perceived by having access to enormous amounts of data from different corners on Earth.
The radical aspect is perhaps the fact that it can be used, depending where on the planet you are, for your own benefit. Anyone can us it to say anything he/she wants to say. However, I say it's relatively free because whatever is posted in this medium is retrievable by Security agencies on charge of controlling the security of the nation.
In China, or Cuba, certainly they may have a different perception about the Internet.
I remember a couple of years ago, when things were really hot in Nepal, I wasn't able to get a hold of my friends in Kathmandu or high in the mountains because they had no Internet access during that time.
So, it is an alternative medium but perhaps not that radical...
